Inside the game
THE QUICK INTRODUCTION
What’s it all about?
Human Resource Machine turns a task at an office desk into a small program. You arrange instructions that move values between an inbox, storage and an outbox. A sequence that works for the first example may still fail when the input changes, so the real goal is to express the rule rather than memorise one answer.
Loops and conditional decisions let a short program handle more cases. They can also hide the reason a value went to the wrong place. Step through the instructions and inspect the worker’s state when something fails. Optional efficiency targets add another problem after a correct solution: how to get the same result with fewer instructions or operations.

How to play
- Read the required relationship between input and output.
- Arrange instructions and use storage for values needed later.
- Trace a failed test to the first incorrect decision.
- Attempt efficiency targets after the program handles all test cases.
