PlayStation’s September 2026 State of Play delivered news on more than 30 games across two broadcasts, but three announcements stood above the rest: a final launch trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, the first PS5 Pro gameplay from Metro 2039, and an extensive look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

The double showcase—combining the global State of Play with State of Play Japan—also brought new games, release dates, expansions, demos and PlayStation Plus additions. Here are the biggest reveals first, followed by a concise rundown of everything else shown.

  • Marvel’s Wolverine launches globally for PS5 on September 15, 2026.

  • Final Fantasy VII Revelation will conclude Square Enix’s remake trilogy on April 8, 2027.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is a major PS5 expansion planned for 2027.

  • PlayStation says the two shows featured news on more than 30 games.

GamersVora’s Take

Marvel’s Wolverine was the biggest immediate reveal because its launch is only days away, but Metro 2039 arguably delivered the showcase’s most valuable new footage. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, meanwhile, gave the 2027 PS5 calendar a clear major milestone. Overall, the presentation relied more on strengthening PlayStation’s upcoming schedule than on delivering a single unexpected blockbuster reveal.

Marvel’s Wolverine gets one final trailer before launch

Marvel’s Wolverine was the most immediate headline of the show. Insomniac’s PS5 game received a new launch trailer ahead of its worldwide release on September 15, 2026.

Marvel’s Wolverine received its final major trailer before launch.

The footage focused on Logan’s relationships as much as his combat. Jean Grey and members of Team X appeared alongside a wider group of allies and enemies, suggesting that Wolverine’s personal history will be central to the story rather than simple background material.

With the game less than two weeks away at the time of the broadcast, this was not another distant teaser. It was PlayStation’s final major push for one of its biggest first-party releases of the year—and a reminder that players will soon be able to judge the complete adventure for themselves.

Metro 2039 shows its first PS5 Pro gameplay

4A Games used State of Play to show the first PS5 Pro gameplay from Metro 2039, which launches for PS5 on February 4, 2027.

Metro 2039 made its PS5 Pro gameplay debut during the showcase.

The new single-player story follows a mysterious character known as the Stranger into post-apocalyptic Moscow. Exploration, stealth, survival and combat remain at the centre of the experience, while the premise points toward a conflict with consequences for the wider Metro world.

The reveal answered the release-date question, but several details remain open. PlayStation’s recap did not confirm other platforms, performance modes or technical differences between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro versions. Those details should be treated as unconfirmed until 4A Games or the publisher shares more.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will end the remake trilogy

Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch for PS5 on April 8, 2027, completing its three-part Final Fantasy VII remake project.

The showcase offered a broader look at the game’s world and traversal. Players will be able to explore from the Highwind, while grapple guns and chocobos provide different ways to travel through locations on the ground. The presentation also introduced the FITS combat system and highlighted new character synergies.

The important takeaway is not simply that the third game now has a date. Square Enix is presenting Revelation as a conclusion with a larger sense of scale, connecting aerial travel, expanded exploration and party-based combat in the trilogy’s final chapter.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expands the hunt in 2027

Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a major expansion coming to PS5 in 2027.

Ascendance will introduce the Skybound Eyrie locale, additional monsters and Elder Dragons, a new Boost Action and another chapter in the Expedition Team’s story. Newly revealed creatures include Gundoraja and Arakeeta, with the latter featured in a playable Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo.

Capcom has not yet announced a precise release date in the official State of Play material. For now, the confirmed window is simply 2027.

GTA 6 gets two limited-edition DualSense controllers

PlayStation revealed black and white Grand Theft Auto VI Limited Edition DualSense controllers, both styled around the colour and energy of Vice City.

Pre-orders open on September 10, while the controllers launch on November 19, the same day GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive on PS5. The official recap did not include regional pricing, so buyers should check their local PlayStation storefront when pre-orders begin.

Ghost of Yōtei adds new challenges and story content

Ghost of Yōtei’s Complete Edition arrives on October 1 with two notable additions. Most Wanted is a combat-survival mode built around waves of enemies and boss encounters, with weapons, cosmetics and playable characters among its rewards.

New games revealed during State of Play

Several projects made their debut or received substantial new details:

  • CONQ: Crown of No Quarter is a shared-open-world warfare game featuring land and naval battles, faction conflict, sieges and army leadership.
  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 brings custom heroes and player-defined fighting styles to PS5 in 2027.
  • Rhapsody in Scarlet combines 1920s New York, jazz, magic and beasts in a new action-adventure from Konami.
  • Maneater 2 moves its evolving bull shark to a dangerous private-island theme park when it comes to PS5 in 2027.
  • The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes is the series’ first console game, featuring roguelite action and an original story supervised by author Daisuke Aizawa. It is planned for PS5 in 2027.
  • World Phasebound Control Authority: WPCA is a Seoul-set action RPG about supernatural containment zones, currently scheduled for PS5 in 2028.
  • Where the Seeds Fall, the first game from Cygames’ new CygamesEdge label, launches for PS5 on November 5, 2026.

Release dates, demos and major updates

The two broadcasts were packed with smaller announcements that could easily be missed beside the headline games:

  • Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown expansion arrives October 15.
  • Daba: Land of Water Scar comes to PS5 in spring 2027.
  • Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy DLC adds a new protagonist, partner and around 50 Digimon in 2027.
  • Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches for PS5 on December 3.
  • Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad – Genesis Maidens DLC arrives this winter.
  • Fate/Extra Record launches for PS5 and PS4 on January 28, 2027.
  • Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22; its first chapter is available as a demo, with save data carrying into the full game.
  • Gundam Rogue Orbit launches March 5, 2027, with new weapon types, Tactical Skills and extensive mobile-suit customisation.
  • Keeper, Double Fine’s wordless atmospheric puzzle adventure, launched for PS5 on the day of the showcase.
  • Rematch begins its Blue Lock collaboration on September 24.
  • Rev. Noir received new gameplay footage and a 2027 release window.
  • SlashZero received a time-limited PS5 demo and is expected in spring 2027.
  • Stupid Never Dies launches October 21, with a save-carryover demo available now.
  • Uncanyon, a reality-blending puzzle adventure from Maquette creator Graceful Decay, comes to PS5 in 2027.
  • Until Dawn 2 launches for PS5 on January 28, 2027.

Gran Turismo 7, Saros and PlayStation Plus updates

Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update will arrive in two parts, scheduled for October and December. Together, the releases add two circuits, 12 cars and modes including Online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races and a more approachable Family mode.

Gran Turismo 7, Saros and PlayStation Plus also received major updates.

The free Saros Zenith update is also planned for later in 2026. It adds the boss-rush-style Overlord Rush, an Eclipse Layers New Game Plus mode and accessibility options including a slower game-speed setting.

PlayStation Plus members have several additions ahead. Mycopunk, a one-to-four-player co-op looter shooter, will enter the Game Catalog later in 2026. Mega Man X: Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2 and the original Ratchet & Clank are also heading to the Premium Classics catalogue, although only Mega Man received a more specific September window in the showcase recap.

Other entertainment and hardware announcements

State of Play was not limited to game releases. A 1,911-piece LEGO PlayStation set, recreating the original console and controller at close to full scale, launches October 1.

The broadcast also showed the new Resident Evil film from director Zach Cregger. The story follows medical courier Bryan as a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital places him in the middle of a viral outbreak. It reaches cinemas on September 18.

What mattered most at the September 2026 State of Play

The event succeeded because it balanced games players can experience soon with projects that are still years away. Marvel’s Wolverine supplied the near-term excitement, Metro 2039 and Until Dawn 2 strengthened the early-2027 schedule, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation gave Square Enix’s remake trilogy a firm finish line.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance may have the longest-lasting impact for existing players, while announcements such as Rhapsody in Scarlet, CONQ and Where the Seeds Fall gave newer projects room to stand alongside established franchises.

Not every reveal came with a firm date, price or complete platform list. That leaves plenty to learn in the months ahead, but PlayStation’s September showcase has already made the PS5 calendar considerably clearer.
