Start with what was actually assessed
The article should identify whether it is a hands-on review, preview, specification comparison or research-based recommendation. A product's appearance on Gamersvora does not, by itself, mean we have tested it.
For direct testing, the reviewer should describe the platform or device, software version where relevant, time or extent of use, and important limitations. A short demonstration should not be presented as a long-term assessment. Untested features and unavailable modes should be identified.
What matters in a game review
Assessment should consider how the game's systems work together: controls, gameplay, progression, challenge, presentation, accessibility, technical performance and value. Story, multiplayer and replayability matter where they are relevant to that game.
Readers should know the platform played and how much of the game informed the verdict. Online play should distinguish test conditions from a live public environment. Significant spoilers should be clearly signposted. Performance issues should include useful context rather than suggesting every player will experience the same result.
Hardware evidence readers can compare
Laptops, handhelds, consoles, gaming phones and accessories need different tests. The article should explain which checks were relevant and which were performed, rather than imply that every device follows an identical laboratory process.
- Configuration: the exact model, processor, graphics, memory, storage and relevant operating system or firmware.
- Gaming performance: the game, resolution, graphics preset, power mode and use of upscaling or frame generation alongside measured results.
- Battery and thermals: workload, brightness, power settings and test conditions where runtime, temperature or noise is reported.
- Everyday use: controls, display, ergonomics, portability, connectivity and any limitations observed during use.
- Value: the price, currency, region and date relevant to the recommendation, with suitable alternatives.
Measured results should be separated from manufacturer specifications and third-party benchmarks. Comparisons need compatible conditions or an explanation of the differences. A reviewer should not assign precise measurements to a subjective impression.
A score needs an explanation
Where an article includes a numerical score, it is an editorial assessment on the scale shown. The reasoning, strengths, weaknesses and intended audience are more useful than the number alone. An unrated article should not be read as a negative review.
Scores are not a guarantee of compatibility, reliability or enjoyment. They should not be presented as an average of benchmark results unless the article explicitly defines that method. Products in different categories or reviewed at different prices may not be directly comparable.
How recommendations should be selected
Buying guides and best-of lists should state the needs they address, such as budget, platform, portability or performance. Each recommendation needs a reason, a relevant compromise and enough context for a reader to judge the fit.
When recommendations rely on specifications, documentation or other reporting, the guide should make that basis clear. A list must not imply hands-on testing of every entry unless that work was done. Availability and price can change, so check the seller's details before purchasing.
Review access and commercial support
Articles should disclose supplied review copies, loaned devices or other relevant support. An affiliate relationship should be disclosed near the purchasing context. Neither a sample nor an advertising proposal should purchase a favourable verdict.
See our Editorial Policy for sourcing, conflicts of interest and commercial disclosure standards.
Retesting, updates and reader feedback
Patches, firmware and price changes can affect an assessment. An updated verdict should explain the new evidence, and a claim of retesting should identify what was checked again. Earlier test conditions remain important context.
