Factorio makes progress visible through the flow of materials. Mining, transport and assembly must work together, and the next product often depends on several earlier lines being reliable. Expanding production creates both opportunities and new demands on the network feeding it.
Follow a shortage back to its source instead of adding machines wherever the final output looks slow. A design that is easy to understand is also easier to improve.
