Keyboard Tester

Check which physical keys your browser detects. Start a test and press individual keys or hold gaming combinations such as W, Shift and Space together. Testing only listens while the test area has focus.

Click Start keyboard test to focus this area. Tab or Escape exits.

Hardware input stays in this page and is not uploaded. Shared links do not contain test results.

How to use it

Select Start keyboard test, then press keys. Held keys and previously detected keys use different colors and labels. Tab or Escape leaves the test area; select Stop to finish. Clear results starts a fresh test.

How it works

The tool records KeyboardEvent.code values, ignores repeated keydown events and tracks keyup events to count simultaneous held keys. A standard ANSI keyboard map is a visual reference; extra detected keys appear separately.

Limitations

Browser and operating-system shortcuts may intercept keys. A missing event does not prove a faulty switch or ghosting. The map uses physical US reference positions, not your printed layout. Phone software keyboards do not provide a reliable hardware test.

Frequently asked questions

Does this detect ghosting?

It shows combinations received by the browser. Compare the displayed held keys with the keys you physically hold; the browser cannot identify the hardware cause of a missing key.

Are my keystrokes saved?

No. Only physical key codes are tracked temporarily in this page. Testing stops when focus leaves the test area; results are not uploaded or included in share links.
