Mouse DPI Analyzer

Mark a straight horizontal distance on your mousepad, then measure the movement reported by your browser. This is an estimate: browser movement units, scaling and acceleration can differ from sensor counts.

Mark your distance first. Start measurement, move horizontally, then click to finish. Escape cancels.

No active measurement.

How to use it

Enter the marked distance and select Start measurement. Your pointer will lock. Move the mouse once, straight horizontally, across that distance and click to finish. Escape cancels. Repeat in either direction and compare the average. Keep your mouse DPI setting unchanged.

How it works

Estimated DPI = absolute net horizontal movement divided by distance in inches. Centimeters are divided by 2.54. The tool requests unadjusted pointer movement; a successful request cannot establish calibration on every browser. Trial averages include at most the last ten measurements.

Limitations

Use a desktop mouse. This does not read sensor DPI or polling rate. Diagonal travel, reversing direction, lifting the mouse, acceleration, browser scaling and inaccurate ruler measurements affect the result. If unadjusted movement is unavailable, explicitly select adjusted movement and treat the result as a rough estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the result differ from my mouse setting?

The browser may report scaled movement rather than hardware counts. Measure a longer distance and repeat; use the mouse manufacturer software for the configured DPI.

How do I release the pointer?

Click to finish the trial or press Escape to cancel. Switching tabs also cancels an active measurement.
